Which Printer to emulate Cibachrome?

One of the characteristics of Cibachrome which mitigated its usefulness for making prints from slides was its very high contrast, alias poor dynamic range. Are readers reckoning with that? On the whole we work to get the opposite effect in printing, and not only when we start with an originally high-contrast image.
