As Tom said it's been 'a thing' for many decades, it's now more 'old hat'.

Adapters were made to go in front of SLR lenses back in the seventies to take two spaced images in a single frame- these will work with modern lenses too, but might need a series 7 adapter ring. The older 3D systems from a century or more ago might be more difficult to adapt to a modern camera.
