Z50's NEF files are compressed but it has no compression settings. Is the compression lossy or lossless?

It is lossless compression. That is special because compression usually means losses. So this kind of compression is just as good as the original itself, except there was less size reduction. It has advantages for storage AND speed of writing/reading.

Then there is (lossy) compression, it seems pointless to strive for maximum quality and then accept compression/decompression losses, before seeing what you can do with the raw. To me raw is a temporary file, after having used it for its purpose, it can go and does not take storage space anymore.
