I have Nikon's Z lens holy trinity for serious photos. There are times though when I simply want my compact Nikon Z7ii to have a Z version of F 28-300 (compact, light, single lens) mounted on it.

Though the physical length of a lens (+ the mount to sensor depth) is not always equal to the focal length, it is usually close. (That was the original meaning of a telefocus vs a retrofocus lens)

In the Z the sensor is closer to the mount, by the exact length of the FTZ....

So if you simply make a Z version of your favourite F lens, it will be longer, by the length of the FTZ. You might be better off with a bunch of F lenses and just one FTZ!
