I respectfully disagree with just about all of your criticisms.

I was a long-term GR user, and bought a GR III when my GR became unreliable. Just before the start of the current pandemic, I travelled all around Japan with the GR III as my only camera, and I have nothing but praise for it. I would say that it fits my idea of a perfect travel camera very closely. I had no issues with overheating, battery life, the user interface, or any of the complaints that you make.

I carried the camera in my jacket pocket, in the very nice Ricoh GC-10 soft case I bought in Shinjuku when I arrived, and I had a small USB-C power pack with me in case I needed a recharge. The camera is small, discrete, fast, reliable (in sun, snow, and rain) and produced stellar results under a wide variety of conditions - exactly what I was looking for.

I found the new AF, metering, and IBIS to be a great improvement over the GR.

S.
