X-T4 Shutter AE lock in AF-C bug?
May 15, 2021
Hello,
Today I noticed that although Shutter AE lock for AF-C is set to Off, the exposure is locked while having the shutter pressed halfway.
Last year on my second X-T4 day I was tracking a horse running in circles, AF-C mode and AF on Wide/tracking, keeping the shutter pressed halfway, taking some pictures. I then noticed that some pictures where over exposed because of different brightness in background. So I looked into the settings and set Shutter AE, AF-C to Off.
I don't use this often and I cannot remember if it ever worked correctly, but I think it did after I changed the setting because I can't imagine that I didn't test after the change.
Corresponding settings (as far as I know):
- AF switch set to AF-C.
- Set Up, Button/Dial settings:
Shutter AF, both AF-S and AF-C set to On.
Shutter AE, AF-S/MF set to On, AF-C set to Off.
AE/AF-Lock mode is set to AE&AF On/Off switch, not relevant.
Camera is in P mode (shutter and aperture on A)
Pointing to a dark scene, press the shutter halfway, then pointing to a bright area while keeping the shutter pressed halfway, exposure values don't change (they should adjust to the brighter scene).
Another weird thing: When I change Shutter AF, AF-C to Off the exposure is adjusted when I do the same (point to a dark area, then to a bright area while keeping the shutter button half pressed).
So in my X-T4 the Shutter AF setting changes the Shutter AE behavior.
When Shutter AE, AF-C is On, the blue EL indicator shows up when pressing the shutter halfway.
When Shutter AE, AF-C is Off, the blue EL indicator does not show up when pressing the shutter halfway.
So only the indicator works.
Can anyone with a X-T4 confirm this behavior or is it just me having this issue.
If it is just me, I think I need to reset the camera completely to see if AE lock in AF-C can be turned off again.
I only wonder if the reset will also reset my image count (file naming) because I don't like that.
Maybe file numbering remains intact if the cards with all the taken pictures are still in the camera when taking a first shot after the reset?
Regards,
Han
