35mm 1.8 S

Apologies ahead of time if the answer to the following question is obvious. I'm a portrait photographer and have always shot with a 135mm, 85mm, and sometimes a 50mm and they've all been tac sharp when zooming in 1:1 to my area of focus. I wanted more of a story telling lens so I purchased the 35mm Z lens. I always focus on the eyes and first thing I noticed was this lens was softer than my 85 and 135. The overall exposure, lighting, etc. Is the same but again 35mm just seemed softer. Is this because of the focal length? The 135 and 85mm are more "zoomed" in to the face per se and obviously the 35mm is a wider lens. Could this be why?
