55-200, 50-140, AF speed

I use my big Tamron for birds and such, but as a short telephoto for landscapes, and dogs moving quickly, the 100-400 is unwieldy.

I have an old EF-S55-250 IS STM I use on the fringer, but I only have 1 adaptor, and it does lack contrast and sharpness compared to the Tamron.

I noticed now in the UK the 50-140, which i'll admit I don't always like the bokeh of, is really cheap. Under £1000 due a 350 rebate, and I think for £1100 you can get 50-140 and 1.4x TC!!! However, the XF55-200 used, is only about £450.

I think I need a shorter telephoto for none wildlife/BiF work.

In terms of fast moving dogs, the EF-S55-250 focuses really quickly, quicker than my tamron actually.

Does the 55-200 focus really quickly for dog action, or is the 50-140 a leap ahead?

I didn't used to like images i'd seen from the 50-140, but i've spent some time on 500px, and i'm changing my mind. (an example: https://500px.com/photo/1017617462/Ben-by-Andreas-Weise/)

Usage includes: fast action dogs, dog portraits, tiny bit of human portrait, landscapes. Maybe travel, but i'd consider a used XC50-230 for that perhaps, or maybe a 55-200 down the line if I went for the 50-140.

(as a side note, this person also has great shots with the 50-140, but what really struck me, was the awesome stuff from the 16-55, really great gallery: https://500px.com/p/vesnakriznar?view=photos)
