Nice!

The Kokaburras I've seen have all been in bird parks or the like, in Europe or South Africa. In the "wild" (your fence) are they very shy and rare?

Kjell

Hi Kjell,

Those Kookaburras that dwell in suburban areas are still "wild" but more habituated to the humans that share their habitat. Not rare, but certainly not seen daily.

This fellow however, was particularly obliging with regard to me approaching him on foot. Most birds would have flown away as soon as I started to approach.

If you let them see you completely before approaching, and just close the distance slowly and calmly with no sudden movements, you would be surprised how close you can approach any wild animal from elephants down to birds. (However, not something I recommend with any dangerous animal unless you have a lot of experience and understanding of that species' body language, behavior and comfort zone.)
