Saint Willibrord basilica in Hulst (NL)
3

Hulst is a fortified town in the Netherlands, near the border with Belgium. It was under siege several times in the 16th, 17th and 18th century, by Dutch, Spanish and French troops.

The saint-Willibrord basilica was built in brabant gothic style (replacing the roman church on that location). The tower was used as lookout by German troops during the battle of the Scheldt and was destroyed by Polish liberators. In 1957, the tower was rebuilt in a more modern design, crowned by a statue of Christ surrounded by angels and tuning forks around the bells.
