R6 & RF70-200 2.8 - Harsh contrast in the sun. What am I doing wrong?

Today was a sunny day and I took the R6 & RF70-200 to take pictures from my wife and my son playing badminton. Autofocus was perfect and almost all photos were sharp, but as I downloaded the RAW files to Lightroom, I noticed that all photos have a very harsh contrast and boring and pale colors. In the view finder everything looked good but no matter what I do to the raw files in Lightroom (shifting shadows, reducing highlights, add vibrance etc.) I do not like the results. Here is how the RAW file looked without any modifications:

Here is the best I could do with it in Lightroom:

adjusted in lightroom

At the same time (same camera, same lens), I shot also a video with c-log and did some adjustments to it in FCP-X. Here is a frame-grab from the video:

I like the video result much more and thought that I could also get similar results with Lightroom but no matter what I do, I do not like the stills I shot today. Regardless of the colors, I was able to control the contrast much better in FCP-X than with the RAW files in Lightroom.

For the Video I had put an ND-16 filter on the lens. Are the better colors due to ND? For stills I needed fast shutter speed and with ND I would not be able to capture fast motion.

So my question is, what did I do wrong. How come I can get better results in Video with c-log, but not with the RAW file? I did not shoot jpeg but I think they would not look much better either.
