Question about loading film

Hi all, just got a query in regard to loading film. OK, so I was trying to load some film into my Canon AE-1, and it appeared to me that it was caught onto the spindle and everything was all good. Tried to turn the lever to advance to the next frame and the film advance knob didn't turn. It didn't go past 0 on the counter at this point. I press the release button, opened the door while the film is still on the spindle. And then I rewound to a point where I could try again, this time doing it successfully. The question is, by opening the back cover, did I accidentally expose some part of the film to light, and is it ruined?

Thank you, happy shooting
