Tamron 28-75 XR Di vs Tokina AT-X 24-200

I just bought a brand new 10D and already have the cheapie 50mm f/1.8.
Now i'm searching for the next lens and i am deciding between these two:

1. Tamron 28-75 XR Di (new model)

2. Tokina AT-X 24-200

Although they are quite different ranges, the first one i know has very high quality, but the second one is hugely versatile.

I'm leaning to the Tokina, but would like to know if the optical quality difference between those two is a huge difference or it is a fair trade off for added versatility.

Much appreeciated.
