Is Topaz DeNoise AI a poor chose for Fuji X-Trans

X-T3 in my case. This is a tough ISO 2000 image but I'm just testing with the trial version of the software.

Strange results to say the least. In the attached screen print:

  • no noise reduction in the branch, Lightroom does a much better job
  • little to no noise reduction in out of focus areas, about equal to Lightroom
  • look at the white flower (peach BTW)
    - the center of the flower is nicely improved and retained more
      detail than Lightroom
    - the petal on the right side of the flower had all the noise removed
though it looks a bit like a watercolor. Overall the petals look identical
      to the Lightroom results
    - the petals on the left side still retain all their noise

I've read most of the articles on the Fuji forum about DeNoise AI and must say that I've not seen any examples that are superior overall to Lightroom for Fuji. While there are dramatic improvements for Canon sensors so there's no denying that this can be a useful tool but I seen no improvement for the X-Trans sensor.

  • tried both Auto and manual
  • in Auto, it appears that the sliders are disabled
  • in Manual, no improvements except for large black rectangles overlaid over the image with some sliders

Conclusion: can't see any reason to purchase it.
