I never had an interest in going full frame as a hobby shooter. I did use a borrowed Canon 5d mk2 and 24-105L lens. Nice pics but not going to carry a beast like that around all day. For many years, I used Canon apsc cameras, Rebel and D series, with apsc lenses and a couple of L lenses left over from film days. Generally, worked fine for everything but I discovered the front/back focus issue with the 70d. Fiddled with MFA but decided to go smaller, lighter, and mirrorless to avoid MFA issues. Purchased and still have the M5 and M6 with optional viewfinder ( barely tolerable). I bought an assortment of M lenses during refurb sales. Pics and overall use was just as good as the 70D except for fast action. Somewhat disappointed by the gaps in the M lens lineup and EF and apsc lenses plus adapter worked fine but reset the weight and bulk factor. But hey, what about the often maligned M4/3 system. Plenty of lenses and camera choices from moderate enthusiast to pro. Bought a couple of models and lenses (mostly used or refurbs). Excellent results except for fast action, but decent with top models. 16 or 20 megapixels are plenty for my largest 13 x 19 prints. Low light? Combine a 1.8 to 2.8 lens with IBIS and no problem for museums, etc. Finally, pick a system that meets your needs. You may not really need the absolute state of the art technology with capabilities you may not need or need to pay for.
