Like smartphones and medium format, any reasons for FF/APS-C not to switch to 4:3 aspect ratio ?

Will there be lot of resistance ? or a technical hurdle ?

1, Are you suggesting for a FF (36mm X 24mm) to change to 36mm X 27mm ?
. . and APS-C (25.1mm X 16.7mm) to change to 25.1mm X 18.825mm ?

To 4:3 sensor keeping the same diagonal length as before (~43mm for FF and ~28mm for APS-C)

2. Do you mean YOU LIKE Smartphone and Medium formats as they are OR
. . do you ALSO wish for those devices to switch to 4/3rd format, whatever numerical dimension it would be?

Like Fuji GFX and smartphones already are.

3. What do you mean by "lot of resistance"? Resistance from who?

Current users of the brand ( who may want to upgrade to newer model having that, say R3 switches to 4:3 ratio)

. . What specific "technical hurdle" do you have in mind?

Potential candidates :

current lens design

workFlows of professionals requiring too much change

etc

I'll NOT bother asking your reason(s) nor dissuade you from your wishes.
I only want to understand your post.
