Sony A1 + aps-c/s35 on auto + FF lens = video mode s35 ?

Hello,

I just got my A1 and yesterday I shot my friends mountain-biking switching between photos and video mode. At first I didn't notice (fast action keeping me busy) but for some reason when a Full Frame lens is attached, and the "Image Quality / APS-C S35 Shooting" setting is on "auto" it still defaults to shooting video in S35 mode. This is very counter-intuitive - am I doing something wrong configuring the camera?

Right now I have to manually switch off APS-C shooting for video to get full-frame Video. But when I do that and attach an APS-C lens (also have those since I am coming from a6500) the camera doesn't switch to crop mode. That is dumb as well, anyone with a solution for this issue?
