I set up the tripod, pre-focused the camera and lens, put a remote trigger on the camera, and gave it to my girlfriend to blast away at 10 fps every time the hummingbird arrived at the feeder (she was watching Wild Earth safaris on YouTube in the living room). I got to sort through hundreds of shots to get this "keeper" that I worked into a nice little photo. It's "spray and pray," but with the bird showing up for about 30 seconds about once an hour I wasn't going to stand out there waiting around to nail focus and framing.
