I agree - the custom button to switch back and forth between FF and APS-C is awesome. For example - I set on one end of the soccer field, and shoot full frame with a 70-400 zoom when the action is near me. When the action moves to the other end of the field, I slap that button and have a 105-600 zoom to keep the players filling the frame.

To answer the OP's question  - yes, to get 26mp RAW you shoot in APS-C mode. But in JPG you have choice of 60, 26, or 15 megapixel JPGs even in full frame mode.  For kids soccer I prefer JPG. I'm typically not going to do much editing on these, and I like to bounce them up to the cloud when I get home to share quickly with family or other teammates. Sure I could shoot these JPGs with a much cheaper camera, but the fact that my awesome landscape rig that meets my needs for serious high-res RAW photography can also make the casual kids sports stuff easier and better is just great!
