Do people really dislike shooting in the cold/wet?

I often hear that photographers avoid bad weather such as cold (snow) and rain (wet). Is this true or just an urban myth? Around where I live, I find photographers try to find snow and rain. People drive up to the mountains to take pictures of their kids in a small patch of snow (or higher up into the mountains for more snow fields), and when it rains, we run to our cameras to capture the change in weather. I realize rain is more common around the equator and snow is common for the folks living in the Northeast, but shouldn't that be all the more reason to capture the climate that is unique to where you live? Or do I have it all wrong and this is just and urban myth, and photographers do like rain and snow/cold because of the beautiful scenary and atmospheric effects it provides?
