Canon R6 with EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM plus Extender EF 2x III

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased an R6 and currently use it with a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens with the control ring adapter. I was contemplating getting the Extender EF 2x III,  for a total focal length of 800mm.  I know I'll lose two stops of light for a maximum aperture of f11.  For those of you who use this combination, can you get acceptable results hand holding or do you recommend the use a tripod?  If on a tripod, what type of head?  Gimbal or ball head?   I plan to use this setup for wildlife photography, especially for BIF.
