Re: Adaptall to EF-M recommendations (no-glass adapter)
Thanks everyone for answers
I decided to simplify by keeping the 90/2.5 #52BB and its MD adapter as my only Tamron adaptall gear. I have extension tubes, 1.5x and 2x in MD to experiment with the 90/2.5.
I liked the 80-210 #103A but a 70-210 in fixed MD mount seemed as good or slightly sharper close to wide open, and also focused to 1:3 with acceptable-for-me macro results. Neither zoom did well with teleconverters, so I can do without the #103A and adaptall 1.4x and 2x. I 'll keep using the #52BB with MD to EF-M so no need for a direct mount - other people wondering about direct adaptall to mirrorless adapters may be glad to hear they work.
With all old MD lenses including the 90 or the 80-210 I do basic enhance or add contrast more than new AF lenses. I haven't noticed any blue reflection on the #52BB in an image, but see comment about EVF below... I try to keep the lens shaded even when shooting high key subjects into the light.
I like the 90/2.5 results, maybe because the image is the result of a system of: lens + (extension or TC) + adapter + camera. The flat rear element of the 52BB is just one factor. For example one of my 2 MD to EF-M adapters seems better baffled and blackened than the other; but the less-baffled adapter has a slightly better machined fit to the MD lenses.
Without extension or TC I sometimes noticed the blue center shooting into the light - I never saw it until looking for it in the M50 viewfinder with the #52BB pointed at bright sky and more noticeable when really stopped down past f/11, but it doesn't show in EVF most of the time; and after learning of this I figure out how to avoid it before shooting.
I think the old #52BB is a good if not great macro lens, best starting between f/4 and 5.6 and at a few more stops down from there. A close focusing AF zoom is more generally useful, and a little less fiddly say on a hike with other people waiting. on photo stops. The old manual lenses will be saved for film use as I add AF lenses with time.
