I have no regrets purchasing A7r IV on black Friday special, and it's currently sold new with a rebate that makes it the price I paid. (Around $2300 with EDU discount, BH Photo).  My sports experience has been in evening outdoor soccer, natural light (not pro sports here - it's my kid's club soccer outdoors).

Cropping from 60mp is good, but since you already have the long lenses and you're worried about file size/memory, you'll likely enjoy shooting at lower res (26mp RAW, or JPG at 26 or 15). I haven't had any issues with buffering, and the built in noise reduction in JPG shots is just fine for this use case. Tracking is awesome, and I'm even using it with an LA-EA5 adapter on older A-mount 70-400 lens. Focus is quick and tracking is great.

I think you'll enjoy it, and sounds like a great deal for a lightly used body.
