Using a cellphone as external monitor

Initially thought to buy the Atomos Shinobi or the Lilliput A12 for external monitor, but eventually saw a video on YouTube about using a smartphone for this.

Since I have a Motorola G4 Plus (5.5” screen, 1920x1024 and 150g) that I don’t use since few years ago, thought to give it try.

So far I bought a SmallRig cold shoe adapter that can tilt and swivel, and I’m waiting for a Samsung OTG micro USB adapter and the Ulanzu ST-03 phone holder to arrive.

Was thinking to use it with my 5DS, 6D, Nikon Df, D800 and also a Sony A7R II.

What software would be most recommended? Is the qDSLR software good? Does it have focus peaking for manual focus lenses?

Will I need something bigger like the iPad Mini (7.9” and 2.5K resolution)? Will a shade be useful? Or should I stick with off the shelf solutions like the Shinobi?

Thanks in advance.
