Only reason i can really see myself going the newer lens is that Canon wont repair a mk1 if it has an issue.
That said, the 400/500 mk1's are probably more what im after as i shoot field sports a lot more than indoor.

B&H often has some good deals on used long lenses for Canon. I was hoping that a mass exodus to mirrorless cameras would create an avalanche of used EF lenses but that hasn't happened, at least not yet.
