is Canon doing something wrong? RF 600 vs GM 600 - some thoughts

I know - it's hard to compare vendor MTF charts but from what I am seeing Canon seems to be doing something utterly wrong with their new tele lenses.

I did not have a closer look at the 400 f/2.8 RF mount - the 600 mm RF mount seems to suffer from some fundamental design flaws as far as I can see.

  1. USM type AF mechanism - they're still using the old style rotating AF motors which are inherently slower and less precise for ML designs
  2. MTF curves seem to be sub prime compared to the near flawless Sony MTF curves and also not different to the previous EF mount version

Sony GM 600 MTF curves ( left wide open - right stopped down to f/8.0 )

We know from TDP that the Sony version is clearly sharper and has less fringing. It is understandable that Canon is doing the same "trick" Sigma has done by simply adding a built in adapter.

For me this would be a no-go.

What do you guys think?
