Marbled Godwit, Greater Yellowlegs and bison @ Rocky Mountain Arsenal
4

A very windy walk and a drive around the wildlife loop made for a pleasant afternoon at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR.

Greater Yellowlegs. I've seen them before, but this is the first time I've photographed one.

There were quite a few along the shore of this pond

Can anyone explain the artifact that looks like a "shadow"?

A marbled godwit - a first for me.

Lots of sitting around today. I was hoping to see the newborns, but the bison cows with the calves were too far away. This time of the year - right after the newborns - the bulls hang out alone or in small groups with other bulls.

They look very clumsy when they get to the ground.

The winter coat is still intact.
