Upgrading from lumix fz1000 to nikon d500

I'm looking to take the plunge into buying a Nikon D500 and a Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED lens. I'm sure that the photo quality will be far better than with the lumix fz1000, but my question is just how much?

Here is a photo of an osprey that I took at the equivalent of 800mm (the fz100 has 400mm optical zoom + 400mm digital zoom, as i understand it)

And then the same image cropped to enlarge the osprey

So if i were using the d500 with the nikon 300mm-500mm lens in this situation, could i expect the cropped image to be a clear, usable photo? As i understand it because of the crop sensor on the d500 the max focal length would effectively be 750mm. Any help would be appreciated!
