New macro lens working as it should

Hey there,

I hope someone can give me a little help.
I just bought a macro lens 105mm f2.8 Nikon.
I have a entry level dslr Nikon 3100 old now I know.

I bought the second hand lens from eBay - arrived today - it looks pretty good seems to focus on manual well. Two things really. It has auto focus but it doesn’t seem to work on my camera. Should it? (And any tips on how I can make it work if so? Thinking maybe I’m doing something wrong). I’m happy to use manual just want to make sure all is well.

Is wasnt packaged great though to be honest and the box arrived a bit beaten up and the lens rolling at around inside with minimal packaging and just want to see if anyone knows anything I should be looking out for problem wise?

I’m using it to photograph jewellery - my full time job.  The lens replaces a sigma macro which I had to use very close up and I’m pretty sure was faulty as it is incredibly blurry at the corners (especially the bottom left hand corner) which I found out to late as it was my first one!)

Hope someone can advise

kindest,

Laura B
