Cannot comment on the 24mm, but I do have the 20mm f1.8 - and I think one of the biggest differences is I absolutely hate taking photos of people with it at 20.

I'm sure you can do it, but as a beginner, it's well out of my wheelhouse... While from what I've read online and seen, 24mm f1.4 absolutely can still be used for taking photos of people, and the f1.4 definitely helps with the background blur.

We primarily use the 20mm as a landscape lens (basically a lighter version of a 16-35 zoom) and for video. And we like it for those reasons.

My $0.02 - stick with the 24mm f1.4 if you like it. Just by the 35mm GM If you feel like you want something wider, get something wider for that purpose, but I think the 20 and 24 are just different enough that it will change your use cases and they are not apples to apples.
