Visit to the federal wildlife refuge
3

Thursday I went north of my area, a one hour away federal wildlife refuge, 3700 acres in the Mississippi River floodplain, in search of an rare duck for our area. The Mottled Duck - no luck, so I went back on Friday. I mainly went back because conditions were dark, and rainy on Thursday. Beautiful on Friday.
Anyway, no Mottled Duck to be found by me. It is kind of an eerie feeling to be in a big nature area knowing there is not another soul there - 3 hours each time. I saw one birder that I happened to know.

Anyway, the common shorebirds are arriving, had very nice look at an immature bald eagle with his wings spread, drying them out, other ducks - one of my favorites the tiny pied billed grebe - he's a diver, and I captured him with a fish. All birding/photography from the car.

Hope you enjoy them, thanks for looking -
