auto shoot mode?

I've had a couple different 1D cameras over the years. And for some reason I thought I read once that there's a mode to make the shutter fire when something crosses the AF point if it was in focus. I'm thinking of an easier to take pictures of hummingbirds or flying insects in telemacro mode. Setup a tripod and if something comes into a set focus point the camera would just shoot automatically. Is there such a thing? I could be dreaming. If there is no such feature there probably should be.
