After three continuous 1080p 29:59 recordings without overheating, it’s definitely a 4K thing. I will try your idea (adding a brief cool down period) as well as recording 4k to a different brand card to see if that matters.

A 3 min cooling period took me from 49 mins to total recording time to 53:30.

Looks like this is a limitation that will affect you, 4k video on the M6ii is looking too iffy for the long recording times you need it for.

At least this was well documented in camera reviews, so does not come as that much of a surprise.
