An ongoing thread for flowers etc? What do you think?

TL;DR Summary

Would you like to view and possibly contribute to an ongoing thread about flowers etc where people can share images and discuss related issues of techniques, kit, composition, processing etc?

If so, which forum should it be in?

Details

Several recent threads have made me wonder if there would be interest in having an ongoing thread about flowers or possibly wider botanical subject matter. If there is some interest in this, two questions come to mind:

  • How wide should the subject matter be?
  • Which forum should the thread be in?

How wide should the subject matter be?

People can of course post what they want in any thread, but would we want to focus on individual or small groups of flowers, buds, seed pods etc? Or Something wider, including perhaps bushes, trees, foliage, flower beds, landscapes with flowers? Or more abstract images such as tracery made by branches or studies of foliage in light, colour and texture? Or images that mimic oil painting, water colours, solarisation, posterisation etc?

Might we include some non-plant subjects? I'm thinking particularly of fungi and lichens.

Should it be more of gallery type of thread, "post some of your flower photos" (perhaps getting mainly "nice shot" type responses), or should it encourage more substantive discussion of aesthetics, techniques, kit and processing and/or information about the subjects, their life cycles, associated fauna, typical locations etc?

FWIW my inclination is to encourage all of the above areas and let conversations take their natural course without anyone having to worry about whether they are taking things off topic.

But what do you think? Is it worth trying something like this? If so, what aspects to encourage?

Which forum should the thread be in?

The brand-specific forums don't feel like the natural place for this. That said, it is in those forums that you see ongoing threads, some of which have been continuing successfully for long periods, and some of them do encourage contributions irrespective of brand of camera.

In principle the following forums seem most fitting to me;

  • Nature and wildlife - But this is almost all animals, with only occasional flowers. Forum activity is fairly high, with currently the last post 3 days ago at the bottom of the first page.
  • Macro and still life - Mainly insects etc and kit, but flowers are not unusual. Forum activity is fairly low, with currently the last post 3 weeks ago at the bottom of the first page.
  • Samples and galleries - There are some flowers within a very wide range of subject matter. A fair number of requests for C&C. Forum activity is middling with currently the last post 1 week ago at the bottom of the first page.
  • Open Talk - Flowers rare within an extremely wide range of discussion. Forum activity is fairly high, with currently the last post 3 days ago at the bottom of the first page.

None of these currently have any "Weekly", "Monthly" or "Ongoing" threads showing on the first page.

Perhaps it is unusual and exceptional, but here in the Open Talk forum there has been substantive and fast-moving discussion of some flower images and associated post processing issues in the past few days, so there is obviously some interest in this area amongst the forum readership. Taken together with the activity level in the forum and possibly a relatively large readership, this inclines me towards using the Open Talk forum if we take this forwards.

But what do you think?
