Well, my love affair with the old D2x didn't last long, won an auction on eBay for a D3 which should arrive tomorrow, so the D2x will be getting listed on eBay again at the weekend. Would love to keep it but can't justify 3 cameras.....

Bob, for what you'll likely get for the D2X I'd strongly advise you to keep it. I sold my D2X when they were worth £600 used, also for a D3, and always regretted it. So much so I bought another for £250. Unfortunately the D2X sensor failed at only 11000 clicks. I donated it to the repair shop for spares and bought another for just over £200. I still have the D3 but there's nothing to beat that D2X "look" especially for portraits. Out of interest I submitted it as a potential trade in recently and I was offered £145.00. For that money I'll keep it. The battery will also fit your D3 into the bargain. Phil.

Hi, don't imagine that I'm not tempted to keep it  - it's my second Dx2 as I sold first one when I got my D800 and missed it in a lot of ways but between the D2x / 2xlenses / 2xtc that I have for sale, I'll pretty much cover the cost of the D3 - it's the only way I can justify having two bodies, considering I'm no pro.

Having the D800 and D3 I can just about justify

Got a trip out to our local(ish) nature reserve island to try and get some puffin photographs on the 12th of May, so looking forward to putting it through its paces....
