Indeed, it would be nice to be able to detach face/eye focus and metering, in the same way single point focus frame can be tied to metering, or decoupled from it.

Yes! I understand the desire to tie the exposure to the subject but the more time I spend playing with video on the X-T4, the more I wish I could decouple it without giving up autoexposure entirely. I’m no engineer but it seems like it’s not a big ask, technologically.

Does anybody know if Sony’s face/eye detection and face-eye exposure are tied together in the same way?

I’d also like to see an option whereby the area focus box would follow the face detection and then if the face is lost, the box would move to the spot wherever the face was last found. I think that would help a lot for instances where the face is briefly lost, then returns, without really having to improve the face detection capabilities themselves.

Yup that would be good.

I can't really comment for modern Sony cameras, but my RX100 MK1 did a stellar job in keeping me in focus + having the right balance throughout the scene. It took far less effort than the XT-4, which is disappointing/surprising as to how a £400 2015-16 compact camera outclasses a 2019-20 £1.8K DSLR...love the XT-4 though, but I do feel at times that I'm fighting against it, rather than it just working for me/making my life easier.

Instead of me having an easier time recording I've had to re-think and almost change every single aspect of my filming/shooting just so that I can get the right image/video I was after. Whereas with the Sony RX100 MK1 it was almost the last thing I had to worry about.
