I'm a bit confused. How were you able to get this closeup shot of the moon with a 23mm lens and no crop?

Same question...

The answer to this question... afocal photography!

As mentioned in my image comment, it needs only some enthusiasm and the interest to try something different.

In this case, as I don’t have my X-T3 available at this moment (repair of the front command wheel) and I will not get the necessary flattener for my telescope (for the use with a full frame camera) before the end of May, I just mounted my little X100T to the eyepiece of my telescope... and there we go.

As soon as our actual windy weather (gusts up to 40 mph) gets better I also want to try this combo with a star tracker... let’s see what it can deliver.

Ha! Reminds me of days gone by when shooting birds through my spotting scope with a Nikon CoolPix, we called it digiscoping. Probably some are still doing it.

What kind of adapter did you use?

Richard,

Using a Baader Hyperion eyepiece I got me also the necessary Baader adapters to mount my X100T.

It’s just a basic adapter ring for the eyepiece and then a ring with the correct filter thread diameter for the X100T. Another possibility would have been to go for the so called T-2 system, a really nice and flexible system, but there the basic adapter ring for the eyepiece is not available at this moment.

I am not sure I would like to use this type of photography for birding, but for astrophotography it is definitely still an interesting and fun option.

Thanks Herbert, that's very interesting information. And I agree about not using for birding, I switched to DSLR in 2005 and never looked back. I would love to see your results using a star tracker, please keep us posted.
