Re: Corrupt RAW files from EOS R
Thank you Thomas for the logical breakdown, i appreciate you thaking the time out.
I do always do a full format in camera when begining a new shoot. The card and the camera appear to be functioned correctly again. I cant replicate the issue so i guess its just a glitch.
Canon did over the last few days engage with me on a more professional level. everyone i have spoken to points to a failing SD card. I am sending the card back to SanDisk with the comments from canon tech.
For me though, the card is dumb storage, that is it reads and writes, but it doesnt rename files. the real oddity in this is the file naming confusion which the EOS R suffered.
fridays last file was 9800, on sunday after putting in the same card from fridays shoot and full format in camera, the very first shot from sunday was named 8977.
The file numbers then on sunday ran consecutively right up to the first shot from fridays shoot.
After accepting the files were corrupted and i would have to reshoot sundays work i put back in the card and full format again, the file numbering is back in syn ( added fridays shots and sundays shots ) . everything is as normal.
this from Canon, "Thank you for your update, the camera will set the file numbering depending on the last file saved, if there was a corruption in the index the camera may have misread the last file number and started at a new file number, this is speculation as we cannot confirm this is the case until you test with another card".
maybe i just dont get it. Regardless of the card in camera, The R obviously retains internally the file numering. Did a possibily corrupt card cause the R to confuse iteslf in the file numbering?
thanks again Thomas.
