That's o.k., in that case M - except for the 11-22mm - doesn't have an advantage over ef-s for your shooting needs. At the same time it still doesn't have a disadvantage as it comes to lens collection.

The M and the lenses I choose to use with it certainly have a size weight advantage over my DSLRs even if this doesn't include many primes.

For the M I have the Samyang Rokinon 12 and Sigma 56 but I consider both of these special use lenses.

Special or not, those are options hard to replace with ef-s equivalents.

I fully agree! For the price and weight they are worth it even if they are not regular carries. The Samyang is still a bit of an experiment since I haven't had it in the field yet. I got it to do night skies. We're going out the desert in a week and I want to experiment with it and the 22 f2. I'm hoping it will work for auroras when I get back to Alaska.

You could buy a 12v plug with USB C PD connection to charge the M6mkII.

Yes I have those. For wildlife tours access to the van or jeep for charging is problematic. Spare batteries are easy enough. Besides in-body charging I have a light weight dual USB charger for nights in camps. Even in the Serengeti the tour companies provide power for recharging.

Even for a day at the zoo I'd prefer the 70-300 II on the 90D.

I don't see why it's a problem to change a battery at the zoo?

This was not a power reference but an ergonomic one. The 70-300 is the largest lens I find convenient to use with the M. If I'm not otherwise burdened with a heavy pack then the 90D is just as convenient. I will admit however that the EVF of the M allows for hand held focus stacking which I wouldn't try with the 90D.

The excellent EF-S 15-85 or 24-70 f4 L are much more ergonomic on the 90D.

I loved the 15-85mm on my M50 as my lightweight walk around zoom. Way lighter compared to the sigma 18-35mm f/1.8. Not using those zooms anymore as I have a 24-70mm f/2.8 for my R now.

And this is personal, but I prefer an optical viewfinder to electronic.

Yes that's a good point. My wife prefers optical viewfinders too. Optical viewfinders are kind of irreplaceable as they don't suffer from moving pixel pattern things with diagonal lines like EFVs do. For me it's not a problem, but if you hate that aspect of EVFs the OVF is still the way to go.

My wife likes the 15-85 on her 77D. An 80 or 90D is too heavy, the M6II is too complicated and the lens is too heavy for an SL2. She mostly uses her cell phone unless we're traveling. Its all down to personal preference.

I've used the 15-85mm IS USM and the sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 without any problems on my M50. I've never bought the ef-m 18-150mm, however, I don't see what's wrong with that lens, as it will be kind of on par with the ef-s 15-85mm IS USM.

I agree. The 15-85 is really my wife's lens and it takes nice images. I usually travel with a 5D (now IV) and 24-105 and 100-400 Ls and the V20. I use my G1X3 as alternate. For wildlife specific trips I've been using my 80D, now 90D. For non-wildlife I'm wondering about using the M + 11-22 + 70-300 as supplement to my 5D + 24-70 f4 L since the M could also use the 24-70 if needed. This would give me the option of two bodies. I'd still probably take the G as its just so useful. Covid has given me too much time to think about this.

The only thing I applied universally is the option to mount

[fast prime]

lenses on M being better than ef-s equivalents. If those lenses suite your needs is another thing.

I was never arguing about this aspect. The M is great for M mount fast primes. These are affordable, light weight, and of good quality. That is why I got the Sigma 56. I'd never get enough use out of an 85 f1.4 IS L to justify its cost and its too heavy for me to take it traveling. But the lack of EF-S primes or light, cheap EF primes is no reason to dismiss the 90D.  There are EF 24, 28, 35 f2.8 or f2 primes with IS and there is the EF 50 f1.4 and EF-S 60 f2.8 so the 90D's prime selection isn't empty.  There are quality EF and EF-S zooms and telephotos that mount more ergonomically on the 90D.

I'm not arguing which is the better camera or the more convenient to take along. After PP the images from all these options, from FF to P&S, are really hard to distinguish unless one is really being picky. I'm sure the EF-M 18-150 is fine, though its not my cup of tea. Its all good!
