One of the things that turns me off of most software is the draconian controls that the vendors place upon it in terms of restrictions. The fact that most software uses "activation" and phones home and can be disabled remotely by the vendor, does not sit well with me.

The other issue is controlling monthly costs. Having a bunch of different software where you're paying a subscription fee adds up to a hefty monthly outlay, which can be a problem if you're self employed and hit "dry spells" frequently.

Thank goodness for open source!
