Hello, the lockdown allowed me to take many more photos at home, which I enjoyed and I now want to invest into the ability to take macro photos. Starting my camera & lens research in the moment and wondering if someone could give me advise on camera and lens. My first questions is whether I need IBIS. In terms of budget I am "happy" to spend up to three thousand pounds.

I don't know if you read my first posting in this thread about setting IBIS more effective for macro works.

Now I gave this advice a try after I just found theory about it, before:

This is not a perfectly sharp photo. However if I would have done it without IBIS, it would not have been possibel at all. I used a lens with converter. This combo had 280 mm focal length. I set IBIS to 550 mm. I took the photo at 1/125 sec exposure time which would be far to long for an almost 300 mm lens and almost 1:1 macro condition. However, the result was almost a success. I would have get better results using a tripod or selecting higher ISO and shorter exposure time. The theory seems to work: Set IBIS for a longer lens in macro work - you will need it to be successful.

And to answer your question: IBIS is a worthy tool for macro photography!
