The difference in performance from the original firmware to the new firmware is considerable. Especially when you take into account that it's just a 1.10 and not a 2.0 jump. I feel like there's a lot more implied, but that makes you wonder what the upper bound limits are of the two processors.

I think I've read Thom Hogan (?) state that Nikon is intentionally not utilizing the full power of the dual processors. I think the eye AF is pretty decent, but not great or especially consistent. How good do you think it can get with firmware?

I don't think that there will be any huge improvement because the limitation is the AF system on the sensor. I do believe they need something like Canon's dual pixel or a stacked sensor for a much improved AF and this is where the Z9 and the future Z8 will come into play using a sensor with better Af abilities.

I believe the Sony A7R3 has the same basic sensor as the Z7 11. Its autofocus and interface are better than the Nikon Z7. So the sensor cannot be blamed for the poor Nikon performance.

Firstly, the difference is not that grea between the Z7II and A7R3
Secondly, the performance required to be D850-like performance is a long way off.
So, yes it is the sensor.

Don't the Z7 and D850 share the exact same sensor? It's not the same, even if you strip away eye AF.
