It’s ok to have a flagship pro model. It makes the brand look good. It also eventually trickles down to less expensive cameras.

Hopefully, and this is really going out on a limb here, some of the A1 tech will trickle down to the future A7IV and others. Hopefully!!

When all the wealthy people and professionals buy the A1, who else are sony going to sell cameras too? There's a limited number of people who can buy the A1. There's a lot more people who can afford a "camera that is so revolutionary, that only a year ago this type of camera would have cost $6,500, but now only $3000 (or less). There are some minor limitations, but... blah... blahhahhh.. ballahhha", exclaims dpreview reviewer, youtube influencers, etc.

This is how good marketing works. This is how Sony became a leader in mirrorless. Get the higher end people to buy the expensive device in order to help with the R&D, as time goes by, components get cheaper (not to mention economies of scale); next sony sells a similar camera for cheaper excluding some niche features (which aren't that important to mainstream people) so that A1 owners don't feel too bad. It's a win-win for everyone to be honest.

Sony captures the highest market share possible. All the wealthy people/ professionals get the newest models; regular people ultimately get a good camera too without paying an arm and a leg (thanks to the rich people helping with the initial R/D). Everyone does remember the introduction of the a7iii? It was suppose to cost $3k... But it was "revolutionary" for it's time not only because of features but also because of price.. It was the best selling full frame camera for sony, and I'm sure a lot of it's revenue came from it.  History is repeating itself again.  At the end of the day, Sony imagining cannot exist by selling $6.5k cameras to a small number of people.
