Re: Which lens would you recommend?

I’ll start. I have a Sigma lenses combo:

1. The wide angle Sigma 10-20 mm f4-5.6. I had an issue with that lens and send it for service. Seems like they fixed it and I should get it back today. Customer service told me that this lens is supposed to be very sharp (mine was fuzzy).

2. The normal angle Sigma 17-50 mm f2.8.

3. The Sigma telephoto 18-200 mm f3.5-6.3

I even have a Sigma 50 mm macro f2.8

Overall, these lens are doing the job. I had sharpness issues with the wide angle and they changed the rear element for me free of charge despite that the lens is not under warranty anymore.

The 17-50 mm lens is a great lens.

As for the 18-200 IS, it is a good all around lens but a bit slow focusing (it is chasing sometimes) but overall the image quality is good. With the 18-200 however, you’ll have a hard time taking birds in flight but for slower animals like ducks swimming, it is just fine. I’m joining a photo taken with the 18-200.

As for the macro side of things, my lenses do not mention macro but they are of older models. The telephoto one although can focus up to 16 inches.

For macro photography, I rely more on my 50mm macro lens.

That being said, nothing beats a good Canon L lens. My 70-200 L f2.8 beats my Sigma lens in terms of speed and quality of image. However, they are very expensive.

Personally, I would avoid an EF-S lens at this point if you are hoping to go mirrorless in the future. I’d stick with EF. Hope this helps.

Regards,
There is always something to shoot/snap, you just have to know how to do it and have the right gear.
