Are they blaming it on the Sony XQD card? (IIRC your Nikon Z7 requires XQD, yuck!)

Not on the card, but on Sony for neglecting to provide the appropriate update to permit compatibility with the M1 architecture.

But maybe it indicates that ProGrade must supply a new driver.

Indeed they should. They are the manufacturer of a peripheral that claims compatibility with all Mac and Windows computers with a recent enough OS. At present, their device is incompatible with Apple's most recent computers.
