Do you use DeepPrime with the default setting 40? Would DenoiseAI be still necessary if you used DeepPrime at its maximum 100 setting?

You can download a free trial version of PhotoLab 4 - which includes all the features, even those like DeepPRIME that are exclusive to the Elite version - and test for yourself.

I used to dial down PRIME from 40 to 30 because, as a former film shooter, I don't mind a little noise and I find a perfectly smooth image "plasticky". I've been happy with DeepPRIME at 40, but I haven't really tested different settings on a variety of images.

I'm quite impressed with Deep Prime. On my PC it's significantly faster than Topaz DeNoise AI and definitely seems to do a better job with the high ISO images I've tested.

Topaz can create really clean files, and integrates nicely with my Lightroom workflow, but it can create odd artefacts that are noticeable when pixel peeping. I always have to tweak the DeNoise AI settings to get results I can live with, while DxO does the job well with one click.

If I hadn't already paid for Topaz then I probably wouldn't bother after trying DxO 4.

That said, running Topaz DeNoise at a very low setting after first processing the image in Deep Prime does a good job of smoothing out grainy backgrounds.

Here's an example:

Deep Prime only:

Deep Prime + DeNoise AI at the lowest setting:

Interesting that the tone/contrast seems a bit different even though it's just been run through Topaz DeNoise. I assume it must do more than just reduce noise and sharpen?
