Exposure compensation capped on A7Rii in video

Brand new mirrorless user here coming from Nikon DSLRs, and this is driving me mad. In video mode, my A7Rii will not allow me to set exposure compensation above +2 or below -2 under any conditions I've tried. Even using the dedicated top dial, it simply stops changing if I go past +2 or -2. In the on-screen menu, the options from +2.3 to +5 and -2.3 to -5 are just grayed out.

Please tell me there's some deeply buried setting that will fix this! I'm shooting in SLog2, and +2 EV is regularly too dim for that mode. This makes no sense to me. The only way I'm able to ETTR properly right now is full manual, which I'm hoping not to use most of the time for video.
