Nikon z7ii with 200-500 not sharp at all. Any tips?

Hey guys, i recently upgraded from the d7200 to the z7 ii and have paired it up with my 200-500 f5.6. Having been out extensively and tried all manner of af combinations, i'm really struggling to get anything to be particularly sharp, sometimes im lucky if anything much is in focus at all. Is this something anyone else has experienced?

I'm not new to photography although i do have pretty limited experience shooting wildlife full frame (used to use a d800 for landscapes but not much else). Whilst i appreciate it takes a while adjusting from cropped sensor to ff, i've now been out most days for 3 weeks and still the situation isnt improving! The lens is knocking on 4 years old and has been used extensively.

I suppose my question is this, how do i even go about fixing this problem? My options are:

I) try calibrating the lens, although ive read in various forums that this rarely helps.

ii) get the lens serviced and see if it makes a difference

iii) send the camera back and see if they'll replace it.

Any other ideas woukd be appreciated
