Hmm, I'm struggling to see past the halo backdrop to the trees and the mass of the dark foreground.

Thanks for looking and your feedback. The main idea of the photo was to capture the faint light illuminating the cattails in the center of the photo. I wanted everything surrounding them and the trees which the sun is shining through to be much darker to emphasize that effect. Here is also the color version posted in the landscape forum (perhaps edited so that some more foreground is visible - maybe not quite as dark as in the B&W version although on my monitor and to my eyes they do seem to capture that effect I was after).

Greetings,

I agree with jkjond that the threshold in the sky is pretty noticeable. If the idea is to capture the light shining through the cattails then I would probably look at cropping out most of the sky and the trees to make a more horizontal image highlighting that aspect of the image. I agree as well that it would be nice to have some more detail in the foreground.

Regards,

Kk

Thanks for looking and your thoughts. Here is the new B&W version with slightly lifted shadows. I may try your cropping suggestion as well although I think not having all that darkness surrounding the center of the images will reduce the dramatic effect of the faint light hitting those cattails (that is what makes this image for me and was what attracted me when I was looking at the scene before taking the photo).
