Advice needed... flash exposure (X-T4, Nissin i60A) ?!?

Hi all

I need a bit of an advice here. I was trying to play with the exposure compensation settings of both flash (Nissin i40A) and camera (X-T4) in the hope that I could balance the foreground (lighted by flash) and the background (ambient light). Surprisingly, neither exposure compensation of the flash nor the camera had any effect - the images all came out basically the same, with too much foreground lighting (flash) and too dark background.

Settings were TTL on flash (the "A" setting doesn't allow for exposure compensation), and Auto-ISO, Auto-shutterspeed, various apertures.

Thanks for help for a flash-newbie...

Simon
